Dangers of obesity: high blood pressure, heart diseases, unattractiveness, complicated pregnancy

Obesity can be emotionally distressing, an especially undesirable thing if the overeating was initially caused by a depressive episode. Obese people often feel lethargic, unattractive and depressed; and are often badly affected by the negative comments of other people. Many other people suffer serious physical consequences as a result of their weight.

Diets which are rich in cholesterol can encourage the build up of fatty deposits around the body. Fat in the arteries can lead to Hyperlipidemia, resulting in reduced blood flow and increased potential for heart attacks. High cholesterol can also lead to strokes and gallstones; and build up of fat in the liver can result in liver failure.

Carrying excess weight puts pressure on the heart, increasing the risk of heart disease and cardiac arrest, causes increased blood pressure and can even cause osteoarthritis as a result of excess pressure on the joints. An excess of fat on the abdomen can put pressure on the bladder, which can lead to Urinary Stress Incontinence; and an excess of fat around the body can cause the throat to become inflamed, leading to Sleep Apnea.

When a diet is rich in sugar, the cells of the body are obliged to work much harder to extract the blood sugar. These cells can become worn out after a while and stop working. Their role is then taken over by the insulin-producing cells, but these too can become worn out and stop working. When this occurs, blood sugar can build up and type 2 diabetes can develop.

Other problems that can occur include gout, varicose veins, certain cancers, irregular periods and death in childbirth.
